When this tool helps
Dividing a bill is simple until rounding leaves the group short. This tool calculates the total including an optional tip, then divides the rounded total in cents. When identical two-decimal shares cannot match the total, it explains who needs to pay one cent more.
Enter the bill, tip percentage if wanted and the number of people. This is an equal split: it does not assign different meals or items to different people. The amounts should all use the same currency label.
What to enter
These are the candidate Android fields, not a form on this website. Editable fields in the app start empty; modes and units are selected separately.
- Bill before tip
- The amount to divide, before the optional percentage tip.
- Tip (%)
- Optional; blank or 0 means no tip.
- Number of people
- A whole number from 1 to 10,000.

The values below explain the calculation. They are not a quote, a live measurement or an automatic answer for your situation.
- Bill before tip
- 10
- Tip (%)
- 0
- Number of people
- 3
Checked example result3.33 each
Three shares of 3.33 total only 9.99. The detail therefore says one person pays 3.34 and the other two pay 3.33, matching the 10.00 bill.
Formula and assumptions
Total = bill × (1 + tip ÷ 100); divide total cents into whole-cent shares
- The combined bill and tip are rounded to two decimal places before allocation.
- The tool assumes a currency convention with 100 minor units per displayed major unit; check a different real-world cash convention yourself.
A common mistake to avoid
Read the remainder explanation, not only the headline share. A number rounded independently for every person can fail to add back up to the bill.
Find this tool in the Android update
- When you have the redesigned Android update, open Tools and search for Split a bill, or find it under Money.
- Open the tool, choose the mode or units relevant to your task, then enter your own values.
- Review the result and explanation. Use Calculate & save only if you want the calculation kept in local History; Copy result does not send it to our server.
This guide is an educational preview of the update in testing, not an announcement that Google Play has approved or published it. Calculations are in the native app; no web calculator or download is offered on this page.
Questions about Split a bill
Why do some people pay one cent more?
When the rounded total is not divisible evenly in cents, the remaining cents are allocated as one extra cent to the indicated number of people.
Can I split by each person’s order?
No. This candidate performs an equal split of a shared total, not item-by-item restaurant billing.
