Trip fuel-cost guide: distance, efficiency and price per litre

When this tool helps

A trip fuel estimate needs three things that can vary independently: distance, fuel efficiency and the price of fuel. Keeping them separate makes it easier to see why an estimate changes. This tool expects efficiency in kilometres per litre, not litres per 100 kilometres.

Enter your planned distance, a realistic km/L estimate and the fuel price per litre in one currency. The tool does not read your location, consult a map, look up pump prices or track a vehicle. Use the Fuel economy tool first if you have measured trip distance and litres but do not know km/L.

What to enter

These are the candidate Android fields, not a form on this website. Editable fields in the app start empty; modes and units are selected separately.

Distance (kilometres): The total distance you want included.
Fuel efficiency (km per litre): A positive distance-per-litre value.
Fuel price per litre: Your own price in the selected currency label.

At 10 km/L, a 100 km journey needs 10 litres. At 200.00 per litre, the fuel-cost estimate is 2,000.00.

Formula and assumptions

Litres needed = distance ÷ km per litre; fuel cost = litres needed × price per litre

Efficiency is held constant for the whole trip; traffic, load, weather and driving style can change actual use.
The result excludes tolls, parking, maintenance and all other travel costs.

A common mistake to avoid

Do not type an L/100 km figure into the km/L field. Those measures are reciprocal, not interchangeable, and can create a substantially wrong estimate.

Is the fuel price live?

No. You supply the price per litre; the app does not fetch current prices.

Should I enter a return journey separately?

Enter the total distance you want costed. For a similar return route, include both legs in that total.
