When this tool helps
Distance divided by average speed gives a useful baseline duration. It does not tell you when a road will be clear or how long a stop will take. This tool makes that simple relationship explicit and returns minutes as well as hours.
Enter distance in kilometres and average speed in kilometres per hour. Use an average appropriate for the whole movement rather than a vehicle’s maximum speed. The candidate does not request a route, location permission or live traffic data.
What to enter
These are the candidate Android fields, not a form on this website. Editable fields in the app start empty; modes and units are selected separately.
- Distance (kilometres)
- The distance included in the estimate.
- Average speed (km/h)
- A positive average speed for that distance.
Try this example after the update is available
The values below explain the calculation. They are not a quote, a live measurement or an automatic answer for your situation.
- Distance (km)
- 150
- Average speed (km/h)
- 60
Checked example result150 minutes
150 km at an average 60 km/h takes 2.5 hours. Multiplying by 60 converts that duration to 150 minutes.
Formula and assumptions
Hours = distance ÷ average speed; minutes = hours × 60
- Average speed is constant for the estimate and must be greater than zero.
- Stops, traffic delays, breaks, border queues and departure time are not included. This is not navigation or an arrival-time prediction.
A common mistake to avoid
Do not mix miles with km/h. Convert the distance or speed to the expected units before entering them, and add realistic stopped time separately.
Find this tool in the Android update
- When you have the redesigned Android update, open Tools and search for Travel time, or find it under Travel.
- Open the tool, choose the mode or units relevant to your task, then enter your own values.
- Review the result and explanation. Use Calculate & save only if you want the calculation kept in local History; Copy result does not send it to our server.
This guide is an educational preview of the update in testing, not an announcement that Google Play has approved or published it. Calculations are in the native app; no web calculator or download is offered on this page.
Questions about Travel time
Does this show a live arrival time?
No. It returns a duration from your inputs, with no map, route or current traffic lookup.
Can I enter a speed of zero?
No. Dividing by zero would not produce a meaningful finite travel duration, so it is rejected.
